Established on 13th September 2022, the Department of Commerce, under the leadership of Dr. Fed Mathew as the first principal, has grown to be the top commerce college in Ernakulam. With a humble beginning and a commitment to excellence, we are dedicated to realizing our vision of making VISAT Arts and Science College a hallmark of educational distinction in the region.

As the Head of the Commerce Department, I am delighted to share with you some exciting updates and achievements of our department over the past few months.
First and foremost, I would like to express my appreciation to the dedicated faculty members for their unwavering commitment to providing quality education and fostering a conductive learning environment. Your tireless efforts have contributed to the success of our students.
Looking ahead, the Commerce Department is actively planning a student exchange program with partner universities to provide our students with valuable global exposure. Additionally, we are working on organizing an intercollegiate business fest that will give our students a platform to showcase their talents and compete with students from other institutions.

At the end of three-year B.Com programme, the students will be able to:-
- Build a strong foundation in accounting, management and business subjects
- Seek a variety of career options in accounting, management and business-related fields
- Equip with skills and knowledge to excel in their future careers
- Develop critical thinking skills in students
Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO's) (Finance & Taxation)
At the end of the year B.Com Model I programme with specialisation in Finance and Taxation, the students will be able to:-
- Understand the application of business Knowledge in both theoretical and practical aspects.
- Determine the procedures and schedules to be followed in preparing financial statements of Companies.
- File Income tax returns and compute the tax liability of individuals
- Develop proficiency in the management of an organisation
- Attain skills in conducting business transactions online
- Learn the basic skills for the effective utilisation of funds
- Follow the ethics pertaining to business transactions
Programme Outcomes (PO's) (Computer Application)
- The study of this program will provide wide knowledge both in commerce and Computer software applications.
- The program includes various accounting courses, enabling the students to gain theoretical and problem-solving abilities.
- Business software applications courses like Tally will enable the students to start a small software business of self-employment.
- These courses have opened the floodgates in the area of computers and other core industries, and other professional studies CA, ICWA etc.
- Courses of this program provide a bright future in the IT fields, Software, Banks, Companies, BPOs and KPOs.

- Programme provides the outcome of Accounting, Banking, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Computer Language, Software and Software applications in Commerce.
- Programme curriculum results in the office atomization with computers and computer software applications.
- Programme has opened the floodgates in the eve of software application jobs in the eve of trade Commerce, Business, Banking, Insurance and in related eve of business.

Placement Companies
Placement Cell acts as an interface between the students and the recruiters and is responsible for placement of final year students, providing internship opportunities and grooming the students of all batches.The Cell also conducts various training programs, workshops, seminars and webinars by industry experts, and regularly takes up various initiatives to develop students’ skills and impart knowledge and awareness in multiple areas.
Objectives of the Cell:
- To create awareness amongst the students regarding available career options and to help them in identifying their career objective.
- To prepare students for campus recruitments by arranging training in aptitude tests, group discussions and preparing them for various interview rounds through professional trainers.
- Updating the students with current market trends periodically through various initiatives to prepare for the industry expectation
- Aiming to place the maximum number of students through campus and off campus recruitments by reputed companies.

Software Lab
This lab helps to understand theories, methods, and logic applied to software development. The main software used in these labs are Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, Tally and Turbo C.
