National Service Scheme

In line with our mission of producing good citizens for our country above all else, the motto of the National Service Scheme is ‘Not Me But You’, which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service in our society which is a prerequisite for collective growth and advancement. This is a highly popular and recommended initiative that has a huge number of voluntary participants every year.

Through the NSS, our students develop important life skills such as appreciation of different points of view, acceptance of varied perspectives and consideration towards other living beings. Our students understand the motto of the NSS and uphold it not just during the time that they spend in college but also for the rest of their lives. The philosophy of the NSS is well reflected in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

The NSS abides by its mission on a day-to-day basis through each and every activity that is conducted by it. The most interesting and important aspect of the NSS is that it is conducted and regulated almost entirely by the students who learn key organizational skills during the process. Both the students and the teachers, through combined participation in Community Service gain a sense of involvement in the tasks of building a better nation.

Under the National Service Scheme Technical cell, Kerala, two units are registered in VISAT, Elanji with strength of 200 volunteers. Some of the targeted aims of NSS in promoting student welfare include instilling discipline, character building, promotion of physical fitness, development of cultural appreciation and selfless service towards the community. Some of the most popular activities of the NSS include Special Camps, Blood Donation Camps, Independence Day Celebrations, Awareness Program for students and public which are conducted by the NSS units of VISAT every academic year. The huge variety of learning experiences promote a sense of participation and achievement among the volunteers. The NSS Unit of Vijnan Institute of Science & Technology, Elanji in association with Elanji Grama Panchayat conducted a complete digitalization of the Panchayat and this has been a very inspiring moment for all the students and teachers in the college. Besides this, the team has successfully conducted the renovation work and painting at the Primary Health Centre Elanji and Govt. L P School Alapuram as part of the Punarjani. This was done during the seven-day camp organised by the NSS unit, which was inaugurated by Elanji Panchayat President Joyce Mambillil. The ‘Punarjani’ initiative launched in 2017 had taken up the maintenance of non-functional equipment in PHC and and L P School. It also repaired damaged furniture. Electrification of 8 non-electrified houses in the adopted village in association with Panchayat was successfully completed by the NSS volunteers
